In 1923 George C. Rogge decided to leave his job in the Gary steel mills and start an insurance agency. His business grew and prospered, in part, because he enjoyed walking the three miles down Broadway’s business district in Gary nearly every day, greeting his clients by name. Everyone loved George Rogge.

Gary experienced the “City of the Century” days of tremendous growth and prosperity, becoming the largest city founded in 20th century America. George’s company, under the direction of sons Don and Bill, prospered in similar fashion.

Don’s son, George A. Rogge, worked alongside his father to learn the business. Under George’s direction the company entered the computer age. In 1978 he moved the office to its present central location in Merrillville. Still on Broadway, more than 80 years later, his grandfather would be proud.

George’s great grandson Douglas continues in the family tradition. His technological advances guided the agency into the 21st century. Douglas manages one of Rogge’s satellite insurance offices in Gary.
